TXT 4 HELP is a free, confidential, 24/7 text-for-support service for young people who need help, feel unsafe, or just need someone to talk to.
You can use TXT 4 HELP if you:
- feel unsafe at home or in your community
- are being pressured, threatened, or hurt
- need a safe place to stay
- feel overwhelmed, scared, or alone
- want to talk privately with a trained professional
TXT 4 HELP is available nationwide. As long as you can send a text message, you can get support — even if your community does not have a Safe Place program.
How TXT 4 HELP Works
You can use TXT 4 HELP in two different ways, depending on what you need.
Find the Closest Safe Place Location
📱 Text SAFE and your location (city, state, or ZIP) to 4HELP (44357).
You will receive a text back within seconds that includes:
- the nearest Safe Place location
- contact information for a local youth agency or shelter
- the option to reply “2Chat” to message with a trained mental health professional
TXT 4 HELP never shares your information, and you do not need an adult with you.
If you want to text with a trained mental health professional, you can go straight to 2Chat.
📱 Text 2Chat to 4HELP (44357).
You do not need to send your location to use 2Chat. A trained counselor will respond and help you:
- stay safe
- navigate what’s going on
- find local help if you want it
- talk through anything on your mind
Support is always free and confidential.
(Message/data rates may apply depending on your phone plan.)
What You Can Talk About
You can use TXT 4 HELP for any concern, big or small. People reach out for help with:
- bullying
- abuse or neglect
- pressure, threats, or trafficking
- running away or being kicked out
- family conflict
- mental health struggles
- homelessness or not feeling safe
- relationship issues
- loneliness or stress

If something doesn’t feel right — you can text.
What Happens After You Text
If you text SAFE + your location
You’ll receive the address for the closest Safe Place site where you can go for help in person. From there, a Safe Place responder or youth agency staff member will help you find safety and support.
If you text 2Chat
A trained professional will chat with you privately and help you figure out what feels right for your situation.
Families & Caregivers
TXT 4 HELP supports youth and families by:
- connecting youth to immediate help
- preventing crisis from escalating
- offering professional emotional support
- linking families to local resources
- giving young people a safe, private way to reach out

TXT 4 HELP is designed to help youth stay safe and connected to caring adults.
