More Than a Sign How Safe Place® Connects Youth to Help
A Safe Place sign communicates a simple promise: a young person can enter that location and ask for help. Behind that sign is a coordinated response involving trained community partners, local youth-service agencies, and caring professionals.
A visible pathway to support
Safe Place locations may include libraries, fire stations, schools, transit vehicles, businesses, and other accessible community settings. The goal is to give youth a recognizable place to begin when they feel unsafe or do not know where else to turn.
A coordinated response
When a young person asks for help, trained site staff connect with the local Safe Place agency. A responder works to understand the situation, address immediate safety, and connect the young person with appropriate services.
Help is also available by text
Youth can text SAFE and their current location to 4HELP (44357) to receive information about the nearest Safe Place® location. They can reply 2CHAT to connect with a mental health professional for additional support through TXT 4 HELP™.
Community partners make it possible
The strength of Safe Place comes from preparation and partnership. Participating sites, responders, youth-service agencies, and community leaders each help make support visible and accessible.
National Safe Place Week is an opportunity to refresh training, recognize partners, and remind young people that help is available. The sign is important, but the relationships and response system behind it are what turn visibility into safety.
