Impact & Reach

Safe Place® is a nationally recognized model for youth safety, crisis response, and community partnership. Each year, thousands of young people access Safe Place sites, TXT 4 HELP, and local youth service agencies to find safety, stability, and trusted support when they need it most.

A National Network of Youth Safety

Safe Place operates in communities across the country through a coordinated network of youth agencies, public organizations, and community partners. Schools, libraries, fire stations, transit systems, and businesses join together to create more than 22,000 designated Safe Place locations—each one displaying the yellow Safe Place sign to show youth where they can find immediate help.

This network continues to grow, expanding access to safety for youth in urban, rural, and suburban communities nationwide.

Real Help, Real Impact

Safe Place provides youth with immediate, barrier-free access to trained professionals who can address crisis situations, provide emotional support, and connect them to local resources. Through Safe Place and TXT 4 HELP, young people have access to:

  • Immediate safety when feeling unsafe, alone, or at risk
  • Connection to shelter and support services through local youth agencies
  • Trauma-informed professionals via TXT 4 HELP
  • Early intervention, reducing the risk of homelessness, exploitation, and harm
  • Guidance, stabilization, and pathways to long-term support

Safe Place strengthens communities by ensuring young people never have to navigate crisis alone.

Reach That Makes a Difference

  • Safe Place is available in 40 states, with new communities joining each year.
  • More than 22,000 Safe Place sites provide easily identifiable, walk-up access to help.
  • TXT 4 HELP offers nationwide, 24/7 support, connecting youth from any location in the U.S. to real-time assistance.
  • Each year, hundreds of thousands of youth and adults receive education and awareness about youth safety, crisis response, and available resources through Safe Place outreach.
  • Safe Place agencies report significant reductions in youth victimization and unsafe situations due to early intervention and rapid connection to services.

This reach represents a powerful truth: When every community plays a role in youth safety, every young person has a better chance to thrive.

Powered by Partnerships

Safe Place exists because communities invest in young people. Local youth agencies, first responders, transportation systems, schools, businesses, and caring adults all come together to create a reliable safety net for youth experiencing crisis.

These partnerships turn public spaces into safe spaces—places where youth know they will be heard, supported, and protected.

“We have been part of Safe Place in 48 locations since 2004. In that time period, there has been a measurable impact for youth in crisis throughout the county. KCLS has always had positive responses to the support Safe Place has provided the youth who seek help in our libraries. Thank you to Safe Place for providing support for youth at risk!”
